Our water resources here in Venice Florida are being compromised, mostly from poor irrigation, and landscape design, along with too much fertilizer.  Study after study show human development and activity with poor mangement has brought beautiful bodies of water like the Chesapeake Bay to its knees.  Storm water run off bringing too much Nitrogen and Phosphate into the water has created dead zones.  We are doing the same thing here as the developers have done all over the united States, creating too many hard surfaces, along with too much fertilizer.  Landscape design in Venice should be water quality friendly, designing Florida friendly landscapes is very important to not only water quality, it also keeps our fish, birds and other wildlife in a healthy environment.  Venice landscape design should be extremely water efficient, using micro irrigation for all plant beds and well designed spray heads for turf, grass that requires weekly watering should be kept to a minimum or not installed at all, turf in Venice takes way to much water, along with costant fertilizer feedings.  Our water ways can not take any more nitrogen than they get naturaly. there are many books that give very good information on landscape design for Florida one of my favorites is Your Florida Friendly Landscape by Robert Black and Kathleen Ruppert.  This is  acomplete guide to designing a water effeecient landscape that will not compromise our water ways.  Please landscape responsibly
