Sarasota landscaping with tropicals is a great way to get away from that ever thirsty St. Augustine grass.  Not only do most tropicals need very little water after established, they are much more esteticly pleasing to the eye. Sarasota has a great climate for tropicals especialy along the coast.  Florida gulf coast landscaping is aperfect choice for tropicals.  Most Tropicals will bloom right through the Winter, some times they are nipped back by frost but most will come right back with Springs amazing weather.  Here are some wonderful plants to use in a Sarasota Tropical landscape Bougainvillea is a great choice, they have many verieties and many colors, Orange bird of Paradise has a very tropical look to it and is atrue tropical plant, purple leaf cannas give a nice lower layer to the tropical garden, bright colored coleus mixed in with potato vine is a wndrful ground cover, many plants in the philodendron family are great choices, Red Congo Philodendron is one of my favorites, Hawiian Ti is another great choice, red sister gives vibrant red color and stays in a upright colomn.  Beehive Ginger is very cool and goes dormant in Winter, spring time it will be the talk of your garden.  Banana plants especaily the ornamental purple ones are a great understory plant and its easy to rmove if you want to change yur garden. Landscaping with tropicals in Sarasota is a great choice, it does away with that ever thirsty grass  and does not need much fertilizer if beds are prepaired with good soil ammendments before planting.
